Chemistry is a core capability in Small Molecule & Drug Discovery with innovative scientists working in medicinal chemistry, radiochemistry, analytical chemistry, and large-scale synthesis. Within SMDD our Lead Discovery and Optimization (LDO) team is responsible for high throughput screening, compound storage and distribution, primary assays to support discovery programs, and compound profiling to explore drug liabilities in vitro. LDO scientists discover and adopt cutting edge assay technologies that utilize state-of-the-art automation to drive speed and efficiency.

Our Molecular Structure and Design team embraces novel approaches to computer-aided drug design, machine learning, and structural biology. The integration of these disciplines provides a seamless and highly interactive environment for discovery scientists to learn, develop, and innovate. You'll pursue innovative ideas while advancing professionally alongside some of the brightest minds in biopharma.Principal Scientist, Leads Discovery and Optimization/Cellular Technologies GroupWe seek a highly motivated and innovative Principal Scientist to lead our Cellular Technologies Group which provides foundational cell biology to support Leads Discovery and Optimization's core mission to find and advance small molecule leads.

This prominent leadership position ensures the continuous supply of cultured and primary cells, organoids and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) to support high throughput screening activities as well as daily lead optimization assays. The candidate must possess extensive hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture, and will be expected to plan, execute and direct such work. The candidate must also have strong organizational skills to oversee a complex operation, managing a team of six scientists by assigning roles and responsibilities to ensure the delivery of cellular reagents required for efficient drug discovery operations.

In addition, the candidate must have extensive experience in development and application of iPSCs, organoids and other complex cellular models, and will be expected to scale these systems sufficiently to enable small molecule phenotypic screening campaigns. This leader will collaborate effectively across Bristol Myers Squibb's many research locations and work closely with our partner in India to produce a variety of cell-based reagents supporting experimental activities in the United States.
